Artwork Description:

This cross is just one of a variety of crosses found on early carvings in the southeast. I like to use different base shapes in my work. I ground; cut; and polished this Black mother of pearl shell. I carved the design deep so that the shadows would create value change on the white surface. The diagonal cross hatched background creates a contrasting but interesting texture. Details are the center circle with cross and drilled holes in the cross ends. The leather cord is adjustable.
