Artwork Description:

The Woodpecker is one of the birds depicted in much of southeastern art. They are shown in a circular group of four around a cross. Oil pigment is used to define the fine carved lines used to create slight textural and value differences in the birds. This melon shell was cut, polished and carved by the artist. It hangs on an adjustable leather strip.
