The first Artesian Arts Festival was held May 26, 2014. For the following six years, the festival took place the last Saturday in May and rapidly grew from 40 artists the first year to more than 125 elite First American artists in 2019. To continue the momentum as one of the fastest growing First American Art Festivals in the United States, and exercise caution during the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival transitioned to an online market in 2020 and 2021. The Artesian Online Art Market is a celebration of the vibrant art and culture of First American artists.
The festival is open to artists from all federally recognized tribes. Accepted artists are invited to enter the juried art competition and participate in the art market. The festival also offers a wide variety of tribal dance demonstrations, musical entertainment, artist talks, food vendors and children’s activities.
The Artesian Arts Festival is located on the beautiful Artesian Plaza in downtown Sulphur, Oklahoma, and nestled among the Artesian Hotel and Casino, the Artesian Gallery and Studios, the Chickasaw National Recreation Area and numerous boutiques and shops.
